They are now second in Africa and 29th on the world stage.

Cameroon has for the first time in over a decade been dethroned as the
first team in Africa on FIFA ranking. Cameroon is second in Africa and
29th in the world. The drop is due to the poor performance of the
Indomitable Lions in the qualifiers for the African cup of nations and
World Cup in South Africa. Cameroon recorded a stunning defeat against
Togo in Accra and a disappointing draw against Morocco in Yaounde which
places them at the tale end of the group. The poor performance of the
lions has given the lee way to the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire who have
been in superb form in the qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup in South
Africa. Ivory Coast's two wins in 2010 World Cup qualifiers in the last
month have helped them move into the number one position in Africa.

The Elephants are now first in Africa and 18th in the world,
moving up 20 places as compared to last month. Gabon are also big
climbers this month moving up to third position in the African rankings
and 30th overall, thanks to their big win over Togo in 2010 World cup
qualifiers.

Elsewhere, African champions Egypt and World Cup hosts South
Africa have both moved up two spots. Good performances at the
Confederations Cup have seen both Egypt and South Africa improve their
rankings. The Pharaohs may have dropped out of the tournament at the
group stage but their win over the reigning world champions Italy gave
them plenty of points. They are now 6th in Africa and 38th in the
world. South Africa have moved into 70th position after strong losing
performances against Spain and Brazil. Sierra Leone are the biggest
fallers, dropping 40 places to 125th in the world.
