Cameroon: The Emptiness Of The SDF May 31, 2009

Filed under: Articles in English/Les articles anglaise,Politics/Politique — kikenileda @ 10:34 PM

When the SDF was founded it was the hope of Cameroonians that it was
quickly nicknamed Suffer Don Finish (Our suffering is over). It wasn't
the first time that multipartism was coming to Cameroon but it was the
first time since the Unitary State was formed in 1972. To many, it was
an end to their suffering as the singsong of every child: including
Francophones that the word SDF was in every household and the effigy of
John Fru Ndi on every wall no matter the tribe or language.

The SDF won the hearts of Cameroonians that their national chairman:
Ni John Fru Ndi almost won the presidency. But as nature or perhaps we
should say the hand of God could have it, the tides turned and the
incumbent: President Paul Biya was maintained by the courts.

Thenceforth the SDF has been a shadow of itself. Upon all the things
it is accusing the Cameroon People's Democratic Movement-CPDM (party in
power), it has done same. Ni John Fru Ndi: its national president has
been in power for 19 years. How on earth in a democratic party would a
chairman be in power for 19 years as if everyone was dead? The party is
now just a regional party made mostly of North Westerners. They
succeeded in weeding out non North Westerners and even North Westerners
who were progressive and did not have the herd's mentality. Today you
have a party running on empty rhetoric of Suffer Don Finish. The name
should not be Suffer Don Finish; it should be Suffer Don Fall because
with the SDF, people will suffer more.

As one looks at the councils where the SDF is in power, they are an
eyesore. In the South West, North West or Littoral, those councils have
not made any progress. Their main argument has been that the government
delegates have prevented them from accomplishing their projects. Before
they campaigned for the mayoral seats they knew that the government
delegates were government appointees. Doesn't the Bible say if you know
that you will not finish your house you should not start to build? You
should make sure you know that you will complete it. Isn't it like
marrying a woman with erectile dysfunction only to depend on your enemy
for Viagra? When he does not give you, you complain that you do not
have children because he did not give you Viagra. You should have known
that you do not have the skill to look for another means to have kids.

The SDF due to its lost of ideas has now resorted to criminal acts.
Consequently, the chairman and his myrmidons are in court for murder.
Violence is the weapon of weak communicators. Their language is now
weak and does not more resonate with the common Cameroonian. As such,
violence is now their motto.

Therefore, I will advise the SDF to close its doors, fold its chairs
and join the SCNC or CPDM and at least have a cause to fight for. Not
every fire melts gold and so not every party will ascend to the
presidency. As a result, the SDF must realize that the game is up; it
is now useless and running on empty.

Until then, barking dogs admire caravans; let thembark now.

This article comes to parrot my sentiments towards the party in question. Very good points the writer(s) made (generally).
